Global warming Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Global warming - Research Paper Example The author has rightly presented that global warming refers to climate change that represents an increase in the average temperature of the Earth. It is defined as ââ¬Å"increase in the earthââ¬â¢s atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the Greenhouse Effect caused especially by pollutionâ⬠. The definition explains the climate change, which is increase in average temperature of the planet. The climate change is linked with the Greenhouse Effect. The effect will be discussed in detail later, but the major element causing the effect is the amount of greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is the major component of the greenhouse gases. Therefore, a link can be drawn between climate change and the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This relation was first discovered in a study explaining the Ice Ages. The outcome of the study suggested that the lower level of carbon dioxide gas might explain the Ice Ages. The major contributing scientists in establishing this relationship and predicting global warming were Arrhenius and Chamberlin. Arrhenius was the first to calculate the magnitude of the effect on global temperature in 1896 and bought up the possibility of future warming. The calculations were done mainly to explain Ice Ages and the possibility of global warming was not stressed upon. Furthermore, the idea was not widely accepted by scientists. This idea was revived in 1938, but was not widely accepted till early 1960s. ... It is, therefore, important that we know the cost of our lifestyle and the direction we are heading towards. 1.2 The issue is of prime importance as it relates to our home, earth. The degradation of the environment will ultimately affect us or our next generations in particular. The magnitude of the effect is increasing at an alarming rate and its consequences are beyond our wildest imagination. The issue came into limelight with rising sea level and in particular the melting of the polar caps. As we discover more we realize its importance. Every system on earth is interlinked and its consequences are widespread. Currently, the measures taken are inadequate and not at an international level. Any change in atmosphere or our environment affects complete earth and we all become sufferers for our collective actions. The world needs to unite to solve this issue and an international policy must be made to fight against global warming. Survival has always been the most important priority fo r any living organisms. The issue relates to the survival of our kind, but it is not given due importance which it deserves. 1.3 Without the atmosphere, the earth would be much colder, when related to the distance of our planet from the sun (Postma 2). In simple, earth is much warmer than it should be because of its atmosphere. It was first discovered by Tyndall in 1859 that gases can trap heat rays (Reville 1). The most important of these was simple water vapor. Carbon dioxide, though in very less quantity was also found to be very effective. This effect was later called ââ¬Å"Greenhouse Effectâ⬠. The question arises; is Greenhouse Effect the main cause for global warming? This question forms the basis for this research paper and after

Summary of an appeal case - Essay Example Second, the judge misguided the jury on the issue of consent as it implicated on the present case. Mr. Roberts developed a solution linking the judgeââ¬â¢s decision with the fact that he deprived the appellant the Juryââ¬â¢s consideration whether he had a guilty mind or not. However, the sentence on each case was neither excessive nor wrong in principle. While reviewing the case, a number of particulars stand-out based on the case. The case is an aggregation of a number of cases. Although, the facts differ in the three cases, the common details in all the cases include information such as the defendant had an agreed sexual relationship with each woman. Second, all three ladies voluntarily had unprotected sex with the defendant. Third, the appellant did not inform any woman about his HIV status. Finally, all three complainants assumed that the defendant was HIV negative; therefore, exposing themselves to the risk of obtaining a sexually transmitted infection as grievous as HIV virus. Based on the courts judgement, the judgeââ¬â¢s guidance to the jury adequately explained the correct implications to the case of the consensual contribution by each complainantââ¬â¢s to sexual intercourse with the appellant. The jury eventually gave the ruling that, in the case of each plaintiff, she did not willingly or cognitively agree to the risk of suffering the HIV virus. Therefore, the court will dismiss the appeal against conviction. The court reviewed its holding in the R v Dica case of informed consent as a defence resulted from limited potential conflicting public policy considerations. Chemical Manufacturing Industry Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words
Chemical Manufacturing Industry - Essay Example The paper tells that to be able to earn good profit out of manufacturing chemicals, business owners are required to produce chemical products by bulk. Aside from the tight market competition within the chemical manufacturing industry, managers should be aware that the monetary requirement in the establishment of a high-volume chemical manufacturing plant is high. Within the chemical industry sector, the threat of a new entrant is moderate. Even though a potential new player could easily enter the industry, there are quite a lot of factors that could negatively influence their decision to enter the business. Although basic chemicals are usually not protected by intellectual property rights, the number of existing manufacturers within this sector is already high. Thus, it will lead to higher competition in market. With regards to specialty or fine chemicals, most of these items are protected by intellectual property rights (i.e. patent). Therefore, potential new players are prohibited to manufacture the same product. Aside from the large capital requirements, other factors that could make a potential business player refuse to enter the chemical manufacturing business is because potential new entrant is required to take advantage out of economies of scale. ââ¬ËEconomies of scaleââ¬â¢ is the secret behind a successful chemical manufacturing business. Since it would be very difficult on the part of a new entrant to immediately win the trust of large-scale buyers, economies of scale will not be that easy for new players to achieve.
Sexual Harassment Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Sexual Harassment - Term Paper Example Review of the Case After reviewing the case of sexual harassment, which went for trial and later on became the law in California, I believe that sexual harassment is a big problem for many of the working women these days. Many women face the problem of sexual harassment when they go to their offices for work. The dilemma is that most of those women do not report sexual advances of their colleagues and managers to anyone because they feel ashamed in front of others. In such cases, offenders get more courage and they continue doing sexual acts with their subordinates. In case of Zurian and Lawicki, Zurian also did not tell anyone about the sexual advances of Zurian, which encouraged Lawicki to continue harassing her sexually. Lawicki harassed Zurian physically and verbally for three years, which is a very awful example of the shameful act of sexual harassment. Lawicki used to grab Zurianââ¬â¢s breasts from behind, pinch her buttocks, touch her crotch, and make sexual inquiries. Zuri an was the subordinate of Lawicki because of which she was afraid that if she told anyone, it would not be good for her professional career. The fact is that there is a limit to everything. A person cannot continue to be victim of a crime for an endless period. That is the reason why Zurian finally decided to contact higher authorities for ending the sexual advances of Lawicki. ... This behavior of higher authorities made Zurian take the decision to resign from job. However, the case did not end here because resignation brought many problems for Zurian. She not only lost a good source of income but also suffered from panic attacks, depression, and sleep disorder. These issues led Zurian file a case against Lawicki because of whom she left the job. The court, after hearing all parties involved in the case, decided to award compensatory damages to Zurian that amounted up to $125000. The court also held Lawicki responsible for the whole situation. It was a good decision by the court as Zurian was compensated for what she had suffered for three years. However, the court did not give her the right for a trial related to punitive damages. Although the court gave compensatory damages to Zurian but did not let her file case for punitive damages. Award of punitive damages was the right of Zurian because she had suffered a great deal from the sexual advances of Lawicki. My Policy at the Workplace The above-mentioned case of sexual harassment will really help me create an effective policy for the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace. I will develop a policy, which will eradicate all sorts of discrimination against the employees along with the incidents of sexual harassment. I will give proper training and education to all employees regarding exhibition of workplace ethics and good moral. I will try to inject the value of workplace ethics in the minds of the employees in order to prevent them from teasing or harassing any other employee. In the above-mentioned case, I have learned that showing negligence towards complaint of any employee results in creating big problems not

Marketing's role is to encourage consumption (Lazer, 1969). This Assignment
Marketing's role is to encourage consumption (Lazer, 1969). This statement is as true now as it was in 1969 - Assignment Example The main role of marketing is to encourage the consumption. In order to increase the consumption of a product or service the company has to first of all develop interest in the minds of the consumers to go for the product. This is the context where the modern definition of marketing is applicable. ââ¬Å"Marketing is the process of interesting potential customers and clients in products and/or servicesâ⬠. The interest created in the minds of the prospective consumers compels them to go for the product and later increases the consumption to a grater extent. A company has to concentrate on the following four components of marketing mix to encourage the consumption. They are products and services, promotion, distribution and pricing. These are the four sensitive areas that a company has to sensibly deal with while marketing is carried out to increase the consumption. When any one of these areas is not properly regarded it is going to affect a companyââ¬â¢s growth as it adversely influences the interest of the customer to consume the product and will result in the decline of overall consumption. The paper under discussion tries to prove that the statement ââ¬ËMarketingââ¬â¢s Role is to Encourage Consumptionââ¬â¢ is as true now as it was in 1969. The main role of marketing is to encourage the consumption even though it has many other functions. All these functions mutually focus on encouraging consumption and thereby increasing the sales and profit. A companyââ¬â¢s marketing efforts are directed at the objective of encouraging consumption through customer satisfaction and customer relationship.
